VCE Units 3/4 Mathematical Methods

Mountains Background 1

Year 12 is high-stakes, high-pressure, and for many students, their performance in Maths Methods plays a big role in their university applications. Whether they’re aiming for top marks or just want to feel in control, students need clear explanations, consistent support, and a structured approach to revision and exam preparation. Our Year 12 Maths Methods Program is designed to sharpen problem-solving, boost exam confidence, and give students every opportunity to achieve their best possible outcome. We want to help our students succeed and we make sure to focus on exam preparation in the later portion of the year.

Core Year 12 Maths Methods Content

  • Functions & graphs (advanced)

    • Polynomials, rational, exponential, logarithmic, trigonometric functions and combinations (sums, products, composites)

    • Transformations, asymptotes, intercepts, sketching and interpreting behaviour for modelling

  • Algebra & structure

    • Advanced algebraic techniques, working with sequences and series where relevant, solving transcendental equations (with logs/exponentials/trig)

  • Calculus (major focus)

    • Differentiation: Rules (product, quotient, chain), higher derivatives, implicit differentiation

    • Applications of derivatives: Optimisation, motion, rates, curve sketching, related rates

    • Integration (antidifferentiation) and applications: Areas, volumes (where included), accumulation functions, the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus

    • Differential equations in simple modelling contexts (as provided in study design and examples)

  • Probability & statistics (advanced)

    • Discrete and continuous probability models used in problems (binomial, normal approximations as appropriate), expectation & variance

    • Statistical inference basics in the VCE context and modelling with probability for real scenarios

  • Modelling & problem solving

    • Putting functions, calculus and probability together to build, analyse and critique mathematical models in applied contexts

Pre-recorded lecture

  • Before the live class every week, students watch pre-recorded lecture material to learn the content.

  • This content is then applied in the live classes, where students practice the skills they have learnt. This is a more effective way of learning.

Weekly Live Class

  • A one hour class every week where the tutor recaps the content for the week and completes practice questions alongside students.

  • Active learning activities will be present throughout

  • Students are encouraged to ask questions throughout the presentation.

All Day Support

  • Online group channel on Discord where students post questions and ask for help on specific topics.

  • 12 hour response time guarantee.

  • We encourage students to read through the discussion and view other questions and answers.
