Year 11 Maths Methods Class Tutoring

VCE Units 1/2 Mathematical Methods

Mountains Background 1

Year 11 Methods is a major step up. The pace, depth, and complexity of the maths content increases sharply. Many students feel overwhelmed because so much of the content is new and it's introduced at such a fast pace. Our Year 11 program provides targeted support, helping students master core concepts, keep up with assessments, and build the skills and resilience needed to succeed under pressure. Year 12 Methods is actually extremely similar to Year 11 and so students' performance during Year 11 is often a reliable indicator to gauge their Methods Study Score.

Core Year 11 Maths Methods Content

  • Functions, relations & graphs

    • Function notation y=f(x), evaluation, domain & range

    • Linear functions (lines, gradient), quadratic, power, reciprocal, simple exponential and simple trigonometric graphs

    • Graph transformations (shifts, stretches, reflections) and combining functions

  • Algebra, number & structure

    • Algebraic manipulation: Expanding, factorising, indices & exponent laws

    • Polynomials: Factor theorem, solving higher-order equations, simultaneous equations

    • Logarithms and exponential laws (growth & decay)

  • Calculus (introductory)

    • Average and instantaneous rates of change, concept of derivative

    • Differentiation of polynomials and simple functions; basic applications to gradient and motion problems

    • Introductory anti-differentiation / area under a curve (informal at this stage depending on sequencing)

  • Data analysis, probability & statistics

    • Probability basics (including simple combinatorics if used), conditional probability ideas

    • Data representation, measures of central tendency and spread, interpreting statistical outputs and sampling issues

Pre-recorded lecture

  • Before the live class every week, students watch pre-recorded lecture material to learn the content.

  • This content is then applied in the live classes, where students practice the skills they have learnt. This is a more effective way of learning.

Weekly Live Class

  • A one hour class every week where the tutor recaps the content for the week and completes practice questions alongside students.

  • Active learning activities will be present throughout

  • Students are encouraged to ask questions throughout the presentation.

All Day Support

  • Online group channel on Discord where students post questions and ask for help on specific topics.

  • 12 hour response time guarantee.

  • We encourage students to read through the discussion and view other questions and answers.
